Sri Gneelivaneswarar Temple

Marriage Parikara Sthalam - Padal Petra Sthalam

Main Deity Names: Lord Gneelivaneswarar (Lord Shiva) and Goddess Visalakshi (Neelnedunkanni Amman).

Temple History: Known as "South Kailash" and "Melai Chidambaram." The temple is deeply associated with the rebirth of Lord Yama (God of Death). After Lord Shiva vanquished Yama at Thirukadaiyur to save Markandeya, the cycle of life and death was disrupted. Following prayers from the Devas, Yama was reborn as a child here at Thiruppaingneeli on a Thai Poosam day.

Speciality: This is a powerful "Parihara Sthalam" for marriage and longevity. It is unique because it lacks a separate Navagraha shrine; the nine steps leading to the main shrine are worshipped as the Navagrahas.

Rituals & Vazhipadu: Devotees perform special poojas for "Ayush Homam" (longevity) and "Kalathira Dosha" (marriage delays). Tying a yellow thread (Mangalsutra) to the stone-plantain trees (Kal-vazhai) is a key ritual.

Parikaram & How to do: For marriage obstacles, devotees worship the "Kal-vazhai" (divine plantain trees) which represent the Saptha Kannikas. Performing Archana and offering vastram (clothes) to the deities is common for resolving life hurdles.

Temple Pond Name: 7 holy theerthams namely, Visalakshi, Yama, Kalyana, Agni, Deva, Appar and Maniankarunai theertham.

Temple Timings: 06:00 AM – 01:00 PM & 04:00 PM – 08:00 PM.

Note: Parikaram timings are usually 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 PM to 5:30 PM.

Address: Thiruppaingneeli (Po), Mannachanallur Taluk, Thiruchirapalli Dist, Tamil Nadu Pin Code - 621005. It is about 20 km from Trichy city.

Google map location: Sri Gneeliwaneshwarar Temple, Thiruppaigngneeli
