Arulmigu sri Uppiliappan Temple

One of Pancha Bhargavi Kshethram

Main Deity Names: Lord Uppiliappan (Venkatachalapathy) and Goddess Bhoomidevi Thayar.

Temple History: This is the site where Lord Vishnu married Goddess Lakshmi (who appeared as Bhoomidevi, the daughter of Sage Markandeya). The sage said his daughter was so young she didn't even know how to add salt to food. The Lord replied he would eat food without salt. Hence, "Uppu-illa-appan" (The Lord without salt).

Speciality: Salt is strictly prohibited inside the temple premises. It is considered the "Southern Tirupati."

Rituals: Because the Lord himself took the form of a "groom" and underwent tests to marry his consort here, it is believed that performing Kalyana Utsavam (Marriage Ceremony) for the deity removes obstacles for those seeking a partner.

Parikaram & How to do: It is a place to pray for a virtuous spouse and a life of adjustment and harmony, just as the Lord adjusted to saltless foodm. Devotees sponsor the Kalyana Utsavam held within the temple. Participating in this ceremony is believed to unite separated couples and remove all obstacles for those waiting to get married.
